The tastes of the territory

Venice and the coast are known for seafood or meat seasoned with spices once carried by the ships from the East.

Among the best known courses are the Venetian liver with onions or octopus, spider crab, and tasty crab meat. For more traditional dishes, try pesse in saor (Venetian marinated fish), fried or marinated fish or bigoli with duck sauce. Cavallino, the Island of Torcello and the whole area have a wide choice of restaurants, farms and typical taverns “baccari” to enjoy these specialities. Another valid alternative, to be immersed in the history of the city, is a visit to the famous Rialto market. Venetian cuisine is a meeting of flavours tied to the lagoon area and the historical roots when Venice was a commercial port with intense trade exchange in the East. The products of the territory, such as fish, vegetables and spices, are the main Venetian ingredients, a true delight for the palate.
